Introduction and generalities:
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world, in most cases asymptomatic, and patients are informed of their illness in advanced stages of the disease. Therefore, this group of patients needs to undergo therapeutic treatments and, in many cases, surgical treatments to prevent further damage. Surgery of this disease usually does not last long, and after a while it may lead to failure, and therefore there is always a need for subsequent surgical procedures. Also, the complications of these types of surgeries are not limited and may be accompanied by visual threats. Therefore, in recent years, especially in surgery with fewer side effects and more efficacy, studies have been conducted, but their results are not very promising. The focus on this field and further studies can be of great help in the future for this group of patients, and the goal of this research core has been to achieve this goal.
Research core perspective:
In the course of 5 years, the results of the new glaucoma surgery are described and presented to the international community as a common practice in the treatment of this group of patients.
Research core mission:
- Study on new and innovative methods of glaucoma surgery and presenting these methods as new methods of surgical treatment
- Identification of biological factors and effective markers for treatment failure
- Identification of patients at risk of surgical failure
- Identifying patients at high risk and predisposing factors
- To provide surgical methods at a lower cost, taking into account the economic and social conditions of the community
Research core research lines:
- Improve the surgical results and reduce the complications of trabeculectomy
- Improve the results and reduce the complications of shunting surgery
- Improve the results and reduce the complications of congenital glaucoma surgery
In order to achieve these goals, new methods will be used in the surgical method.
Long-term solutions:
- Appropriate budgeting at specific times and on a regular basis to stop the plans. - Long-term follow-up of patients undergoing surgery.
Expected results from implementation of the strategies:
- Provide new methods with higher efficacy and fewer complications of glaucoma surgery
short term plan :
- Choosing the right patients and writing research projects in accordance with the purpose and preparing the items and tools needed for the design.
Medium and long term program:
- Surgery is planned in new and innovative ways in time intervals and completion of projects along with information gathering and analysis of the study and eventually writing the article and presenting them as speakers in international congresses or as a workshop presentation
