Introduction and Laws:

Eye tumors are one of the important causes of blindness in children and adolescents. Currently, most patients with ocular tumors, due to lack of information and access to the admission unit, have delayed referral to appropriate centers for treatment and are referred to advanced stages of the disease. Since genetic and environmental factors are effective in the treatment of ocular tumors and its treatment outcomes, the establishment of an electronic system for referral - diagnosis of patients and treatment of patients with ocular tumors is necessary. In order to reduce the frequency and complications of the disease, contact with the genetic and environmental factors causing these tumors has been contacted.

Rasoul-e-Akram Hospital has been a long-standing source of reference for patients with eye tumors (retinoblastoma, ocular melanoma, and metastatic ocular tumors) from across Iran and the countries of the region. Patient treatment results in this center are consistent with the results of the best treatment centers in the advanced countries.

Research Spotlight:

Rasoul Akram Hospital Eye Research Center and Ocular Tumor Research Center believe that by creating an electronic system for the referral and diagnosis of patients with ocular tumors, it will act as a database for research and therapeutic research and can be carried out by examining factors The genetic and environmental causes of this tumor in the region provide the chance of developing and better patient treatment.

Research core mission:

- Establishing an electronic system for the registration, identification, referral and treatment of patients with ocular tumors

- Creating a database on the incidence and incidence of eye tumors

- Determination of effective genetic factors in the development of ocular tumors in the country and in the region

- Determination of environmental factors affecting ocular tumors in the country and the region

- Perform advanced and up-to-date treatments for patients with ocular tumors

Research core research lines:

- Evaluation of the prevalence of ocular tumors (retinoblastoma, ocular melanoma, metastatic tumors) in Iran

- Review the results of various treatments on ocular tumors

- Genetic study of patients with ocular tumors (types of tumors) in Iran and comparison with other countries.

- Investigating biological factors and biomarkers effective in the treatment of ocular tumors

- Assessment of environmental factors in the development of ocular tumors in Iran

- New methods of treatment of eye tumors in Iran

- Production of radioactive plaques for the treatment of patients with ocular tumors

 Long-term solutions:

- Establish a national e-government for the registration, identification and treatment of patients with ocular tumors

- Creating a database of patients and treatment outcomes for patients with ocular tumors

Expected results from implementation of the strategies:

- Having accurate data from patients with ocular tumors in Iran

- Identify the risk factors (genetic and environmental) that lead to eye tumors.

- Presenting new screening methods

- Reduce the incidence and incidence of ocular tumors

- Early diagnosis and treatment of patients with ocular tumors

- Publication of articles and studies in internationally recognized journals in relation to the research topics mentioned

short term plan:

- Efforts to improve the treatment status and early detection of patients

- An attempt to quickly refer patients with ocular tumors to the center

Mid-term and long-term program:

- Establishing laboratories and genetic and pathology research institutes

- Establishing a center for the study of biological factors and biomarkers effective in the treatment of ocular tumors

- Creating a center for reviewing new therapies for ocular tumors
